pre-departure lunch

On the day we left to go home to Tupelo, Warren and I met Ben for lunch. Ben suggested the place, thinking it would be not only convenient to the airport, but also a bit more up my alley than Applebee's or some such chain. Bingo! he scored major points here...

it was a nifty little place. small, cozy...a little yellow cottage that had been re-made into a restaurant. had wrought iron furniture on the front patio, and the inside even had the actual oven where they baked the pizzas!

(you'll note i attempted to take a picture of the flame as they were pulling a pizza out, but alas, my camera and lack of photography skills ended up in this poor effort at capturing it. oh well.)

but the ambiance, nor the oven, or even the food (which was excellent) was the kicker...what made it an incredibly awesome experience was what they presented Warren with for entertainment...

Mom and Dad started him off with a Sprite, which always makes him gleeful...

we had brought Emily (the green choo-choo train you see on the table there) with us in hopes of keeping him occupied, but no need, apparently! after politely asking us if he could play with some, and our readily given acquiescence...they brought out the DOUGH!

squish!

ewww...not so sure about this, mom...what IS it???

aahhh...i got it now! this stuff rocks!

and wee man was thus entertained for the entirety of our lunch. seriously - ben and i got to eat and even have a conversation without constantly coercing our wild child to sit down. ben's "meats" pizza was HUGE...he actually only ate one slice, taking the rest home with him to sustain him on the nights i wouldn't be cooking for him in the following week! my chicken pesto linguine with sauteed mushrooms and red onions was DIVINE...and again, a massive portion...took me two more meals to finish it off!

and warren, of course, was quite content just to squish, squash and squeal over the joys of his dough.
