first florida swimming lesson

i don't know whether it was the 400 invitations i was trying to complete calligraphy on, or the fact that ben had been out of town for 3 weeks straight, or that i found out mid-week that we would ALL be relocating to Florida, but for one (or all) of those reasons, i never got pictures posted of warren's FIRST ever swimming lessons, with our beloved Miss Hayley. we watch our "Miss Hayley can swim!" video several times a week, of course, but no blog post.

so i will rectify the lack of swimming lesson blog posts with this one!

as it appears we will now be here through the end of hurricane season (although nothing is ever for certain), i went ahead and enrolled warren in the 1st session of swimming lessons (september 7-october 7). they meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for 30-minute sessions. while the Olympic-size swim-team geared pool is certainly not as beautiful as Miss Hayley's backyard, and Coach Rachael is no Miss Hayley (although Warren DID call her Miss Hayley several times!), I think he had a good time with his new teacher, and will continue to have fun and learn!

getting comfortable with his new teacher in the water...

learning to climb out of the pool on the side, not just the ladder...in case he falls in! i am loving the safety aspects of these lessons, although I'm afraid warren's knees are going to have some pretty consistent scrapes! not that they aren't already, on second thought...so nothing new there, i suppose!

playing "ring around the rosy" in the water...another comfort-level achiever...

kickboarding for the first time...and on his own!! GO Warren!!

learning to float on his back...or "make like a starfish", as Coach Rachael instructs! Warren's none too keen on this, but I am MOST determined he learn how to do this. we're going to practice in the bathtub on this one!

oh, this was Warren's favorite! it's Alex's turn right now, but Warren just had his first chance at playing "chop, chop...timber!" it's a game where Coach Rachael pats the side of the pool twice (chop, chop) and then the children fall into the pool like a log (timber!). Warren thought it was AWESOME, and has been talking about it ever since!

Warren's turn!

as always, we'll keep you posted! actually headed home this afternoon for a week's (i know!! a WEEK!!) stay...so I hope to see you all at some point!
