finally getting around to updating (where DOES the time go??), so here are some shots from tom's 65th birthday weekend. for those of you who don't know, tom is a 4th of july baby...which is lots of fun, as everyone has a "birthday" party that day! this year we all celebrated by the family joining up at mom and tom's home at Old Waverly. everyone had a wonderful time, and the kids could not have gotten one more moment of play in! the adults got some moments in as well...good times for all.

and warren, little monkey that he is, dangling from his kiki and bunky's grasp...i think they were trying to keep him from jumping back into the pool, but not quite sure. looks like they were all enjoying themselves, regardless!
so that was friday the 3rd...leading up to the big party on the 4th! saturday was a fun and relaxing day, again mostly spend poolside, until it was time for the club's party, then tom's party! waverly has an amazing set up for the 4th, complete with bouncy houses, face painting, hot air balloon rides and live music (not to mention the fireworks!). it was very (i repeat, VERY) warm, but so much fun.

and i almost forgot (how could i!?)...the bouncy houses! oh me, oh my...guess i know what we're going to have to look into for a future party...warren was undeniably enthused about the prospect of working up a sweat in a trampoline-like play house! it had dinosaurs, palm trees and even a slide! we had to pull him all but kicking and screaming out of there when his hair was plastered flat to his head with perspiration. he did not care a bit, either - loved it. even today, when i was scrolling through pictures, he pointed at these shots and said "play?...play mama! play!"
here's a shot of poor samantha, holding her head...warren had no mercy...ran headlong into anything (and anyone!) that got in his way. sorry, cuz...
a parting shot of mara and her family...richard was sweating bullets, had all but finished his snowcone, had his ride in the hot air balloon, and was ready to head home! but at least he agreed to pause for a group pic! thanks, little man...
speaking of snowcones, this was a "first" for warren. it took him a couple of tries to decide if he liked it better in his mouth or on the ground, but in the end he gave the icy treat a resounding stamp of approval!

he also thoroughly approved of the band, Nash Street. mama kind of enjoyed them as well! tried to get shots of him dancing and jiving to their music, but had to settle for a shot of the general scene...
after our fill of activities, we came back for tom's birthday dinner with family and friends. could not have asked for a better evening for it...
i wanted to include this next progression for the sake of...well, just because i found it humorous, i suppose! one of tom's favorite things to eat are deviled eggs. mama (oops, i mean kiki) had warren in her lap through dinner (this is a VERY common occurrence...warren thinks that is what he is supposed to do when she is around...go figure!!), and this is what transpired:

everyone arrived friday at various points in the day...and what better way to spend the day than swimming in jeannie and bunky's pool?
by the way, warren decided (or his language limitations decided...you pick!) to rename my mom this weekend. she is now officially no longer "jeannie", but "kiki" (pronounced "key-key"). who knows how the child arrived there from jeannie, but hey, she'll answer to darn near anything from his mouth! here's kiki, overseeing the swimming antics from her spot in the shade...

bunky and john (my brother in law) overseeing the antics themselves, from a slightly sunnier spot...

second shot..."why sure, kiki...why waste a moment? i'll just shove the whole thing in my mouth at once..."

third shot...yeah, that didn't go over too well. in case you can't decipher the shot, that's my oh-so-mannerly warren, spitting the sort of chewed up egg out with a vehement "blech!" (hence mother's laugh). definitely not as tasty as a snow cone! ha! sorry, bunky...those must be an acquired taste too!

i think we all can thank (or blame, i mean!) richard painter for expanding our waistlines a bit with his barbeque ribs, boston butt and brisket! heavenly, i tell you, heavenly. tom obviously thought so too, as he attempted to thank the chef in between bites (oh, who am i kidding...there was no pause in between bites!)!!
speaking of heavens, the pictures don't do it justice, but those fireworks were incredible.
even more incredible is the fact that warren slept right through them. the child will wake up at home during a nap if you turn on a faucet, but throw a big party and set off 30 minutes plus of fireworks and he snoozes right through it. what gives??

and that was that. so, tom...you're officially old now (just teasin'!)! what's the plan for next year?! happy 4th...i mean, 65th!!
