daddy's chocolate cake, pt. II

well, all three of the cakes came out of the pan clean and whole, so we're beginning on an auspicious note here. not uniformly even, but nothing a little icing can't fix (we hope...we're talking aesthetics only here, folks...the taste test is yet to come!).

and the icing...ooohhh, the icing. this is part of what makes this particular recipe so good. granted, it's unbelievably rich, even for a chocolate-chocolate cake. but the icing isn't too sweet, nor is the cake. it's not bittersweet either...it's just...chocolate! you make it with unsweetened chocolate, in fact...anyhoo, you get it. i like the darn cake. hence my willingness to undergo such trials and tribulations!

so. back to the icing. here it begins...

and then the magic starts...(the ice is absolutely necessary, too)...

and, voila! death by sugar. i mean....chocolate!

and of course, the licking-of-the-bowl/mixers/whatever ceremony must take place again today...

okay, we're looking good so far...

and done!

taste test comes later. what's really funny is that i didn't even consider the need for a cake dome...ha! i had to get creative!

as before...wish us luck with the taste test!
