we had our birthday party, and, oddly enough, my scraping of pans and remixing batter and repouring batter into pans did nothing to lessen the delicious decadence of ben's chocolate-chocolate cake. janice caraway, that was some recipe!
the next day, warren and i went on to west point to take care of my convalescing mother. okay, okay - truth be told, we went to make sure my dad didn't starve and mom didn't die of boredom. oh, and to keep the laundry going and the pantry stocked in the two weeks mom couldn't drive. that sounds terrible - but it was actually very nice to get to visit for such a long time. i rather enjoyed myself, maid service and all! and we even got another snow...and made another snowman!

then ben made it to town, and we went to the Charity Ball with some friends.
yes. i know. my elbow is doing some rogue maneuver here, but it was that or bash Ashley in the back of the head, so...
Warren stayed with his Mimi and Pop Pop (Ben's parents) in Water Valley the night of our outing, so we met them in Oxford for lunch (and the exchange of our child!). it was still snowy there, so we had lots of fun. there is nowhere as magical as Square Books, Jr - i am convinced. perhaps McCormick's Book Inn in Greenville, MS, but truly - if you've not been to Square Books, Jr., and you love books (and want to engender that same love in your children) - take them there!

we got to spend about 3 days - or was it two? - at home as a family, so of course i started "nesting". i think we rearranged nearly every piece of furniture in the house, and THEN i got out the restorative materials! but my word - look at the before and after on this table! and NO - those are not crumbs. they are honestly and truly scratches!! and i do not own photoshop, so the after is an honest to goodness example of the power of Howard Restor-A-Finish!
Warren and i even managed to fit in a walk with our dear friends and neighbors, Mrs. Lorin and Baby Asa! and my comment here? is it POSSIBLE that just 2 years ago it was MY child who was that small??? sheesh!
it was such a beautiful morning that Warren and i played on his birthday playset some as well:
and my catching up culminates with the Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss basketball game. you'll note my men proudly wore their rebel red and blue...even though we were seated directly behind the Mississippi State bench!!! sadly, as you can tell by their expression in the second shot, we weren't meant to win this one. oh well - it was an afternoon of fun for all. AND warren's first college basketball game!

so that's it. and now i can rest my guilty conscience over not having kept up!
