cousin 'mantha day

miss samantha paige ladner (my sister's youngest) turned 2 on august 23rd, and the eakes family trooped down to the coast to spend several days celebrating "happy 'mantha day". it also happens to be "happy august day"...(ben's brother's oldest daughter), so we got to have 2 birthday celebrations! aren't my inlaws considerate to have my neices on the same day, AND live in the same town? makes it easy on us northerners...

we had lots of fun, and had many adventures. we had many positive experiences too ('cause everyone knows that true adventures sometimes have a darker side). in fact, just a few months ago, the actions of these two were the very embodiment of the word "mine!" (and all the ugliness that comes with that)...and look how far they've come!

sharing an apple..."warren's turn!" " 'mantha's turn!"

sharing dinner...
of course, all that sharing did very quickly lead to a shared runny nose, but no fever, so no harm done! all in the family, right?? my favorite is the lima beans...samantha wasn't very interested in eating hers, but since warren obliged her by feeding them TO her, it was okay after all.

this slide was warren's favorite discovery of the whole weekend. HOURS of entertainment!

hmmm...guess i forgot about the swing. hard to pick a favorite between those two. but i have to wonder if we had these fun things at home, would they remain so intriguing?? we may just have to test it out!

samantha's 2nd birthday party was a pool party, and boy did we have fun! her big present from her parents was a kitchen, and warren especially enjoyed "helping" her play with her new toy!
playing with uncle benny and cousin warren is a pretty fun birthday treat too...maybe not quite as cool as floating in your very own pool-top swimming pool (i mean come on - who ever heard of a double decker pool!), but pretty fun, nonetheless.
warren and uncle ben sporting new do's for the event...
the birthday table, complete with cousin 'mantha AND cousin lucy! i AM glad that warren didn't decide to sport the pink crowns in this instance...guess being surrounded by women doesn't make you have to prove your manhood!

happy birthday, 'mantha! (and august!!...she's now a grown up 6 year old, so family parties aren't quite as big a deal these days (in other words, no pics to add!). many happy returns, big girls!
