father's day weekend, part II

saturday morning, we loaded up and headed to water valley for the remainder of the weekend. ben wanted to help his dad do "father-son" stuff...you know, mow the grass, trim the hedges, play with a back-hoe...! so we put warren in his blue jeans and grass-cutting boots...he was ready! c'mon, mom...i really think i can do this by myself!
well, okay...maybe i'll just give dad a hand, then.
but pop pop has much better toys than daddy does...i'll help him instead! i mean really, how many 21 month olds get to drive a backhoe??
i think the "boys" were a bit tuckered out after their day of work - and well they should be! it had to be 100 degrees out there. the beauty (?!) of mississippi summers... anyhow, once they got home, dad, warren and pop pop helped hold down the couch and turned on the tv to watch the open. lovely to watch those men sweat it out in the comfort of our air conditioning! and pretty soon mimi had her famous rolls ready, so warren was literally in hog heaven!
but one can only remain still for so long. mimi brought out daddy's old rocking chair, and warren had a wonderful time playing in it...sitting backwards, forwards, sideways...up and down and all around! a perfect fit!
but hey...there are doors here we haven't opened yet... if i could just...reach...one...bit...more! we aren't just talking tippy toes, folks...we are talking the tippy TIP of the toe!
the next morning (Happy Father's Day!!) we started off with what ben likes to call "big breakfast" - eggs, bacon and biscuits. warren and mimi and i had some strawberries and blueberries as well...ooh, fresh picked blueberries, at that! fred (aka pop pop) picked them on saturday while working out at the farm...delicious!
pretty soon warren suckered his mimi into reading to him...she finds the best books for him, and this is one of his favorite activities!
and then it was time to play outside again...we watered plants, walked zip, and played with "bo-bulls"! warren finally started trying to blow them instead of just eating the bubble juice...icky, i know, but he doesn't seem to mind...
daddy showing us how to make super "bo-bulls"...way to go, mimi and uncle john, for finding the magic bubble wand!
and then it was time to head home. what a wonderful visit - with wonderful food and wonderful family company. looking forward to doing it again next year!
